Since The Pharmacy Shop opened its doors in 1974, the company has had a unique and innovative foresight into the management system of the pharmacy. The Pharmacy Shop was the first pharmacy in Bryan/College Station to offer a drive thru service. They were also the first to review their patient’s profiles before filling prescriptions. Since 2000, Judi Henneke has been The Pharmacy’s Shop’s sole owner. With the opening of their new, larger location and the establishment of Brazos Valley Long Term Care, the company has been able to provide more thorough care for those who are living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The Pharmacy Shop was voted as the Readers’ Choice for best pharmacy in the area for the 4th year in a row.
Henneke was grateful to have been chosen for the award. "Being voted the best by the readers instills a sense of pride and understanding. It shows that the services we are providing to our customers are what they are expecting and they are appreciative of them," she said. "It propels us to seek more services that may be of benefit to the community."
The Pharmacy Shop understands the needs of the community. "Our pharmacy fills a niche in the community by providing free delivery services, not only to our nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the area, but to any customer who can no longer drive or is unable to drive," she said. "Due to the busy lifestyles of today, we try to relieve the burden of family members by delivering medications and such to their loved ones."
The staff at The Pharmacy Shop has played an integral role in the company’s success over the last 35 years. "I believe in encouraging employees to strive to levels they did not think they could reach by stressing education and explaining their jobs and duties thoroughly," Henneke said. "It is common practice that employees and customers develop a special bond of caring and understanding so that employees look forward to seeing and talking to customers."
The compliments The Pharmacy Shop receives keep the staff proud of what they are doing. "We always hear 'I appreciate the way you take care of us.' I feel like we are fulfilling the expectations of our customers and that is very satisfying. We are very fortunate in that our customers recognize the quality of not only our services, but also the quality of our products."
The Pharmacy Shop is planning to expand their long-term care services to more distant facilities. "We want to continue to provide our current services but we also want to try to offer more disease management programs such as diabetes training, nutritional education, vaccination availability and medication clinics," she said. "We will not only continue to strive to meet your expectations but we will always try to exceed them."
